Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question: What is the material of the Stormguard CDX compression threshold sill?

Answer: The threshold sill is made of aluminium, ensuring durability and weather resistance.
  • Question: What is the purpose of the rubber seal on the threshold sill?

Answer: The rubber seal helps to effectively block draughts and prevent water, wind, and rain from entering under the door.
  • Question: What is the recommended door gap for installing this threshold sill?

Answer: This threshold sill is suitable for doors with a gap of 15mm-18mm between the bottom of the door and the floor.
  • Question: Will this fit and work with out taking the door off?

Answer: Not possible I would say. The bottom of the door has to be cut to the correct height and angle to seat properly on the rubber strip.
  • Question: How much is the space between the screw holes?

Answer: I drilled my own holes so unsure what the original ones measured at.
  • Question: Can the hall carpet tuck underneath this for neat finish?

Answer: Yes but we do recommend applying some adhesive sealant to both the channels, whereas if that was applied on the inside channel, the sealant would just be sticking to the carpet and depending on the thickness, the carpet may raise the threshold at one side. Also, please note that the bottom of the door needs to be cut at a slight angle for this threshold, so the door needs to be removed. There are fitting instructions in the link below: https://www.stormguard.co.uk/stormguard-products/cdx/ If it is not possible to remove the door, then you may want to look at the SG100, which is a very similar threshold, but you can fit with the door in place with no need to cut it. https://www.stormguard.co.uk/stormguard-products/sg100/
  • Question: Can i use on upvc door?

Answer: You have to screw it to the floor, and the floor has to be flat. On most UPVC doors, the bottom of the doorway has a lip and is not flat. If you only have a UPVC door and the doorway is wooden, then you should be able to fasten it to the floor.
  • Question: Does this work on a door opening out?

Answer: I don't see why not, especially as the chamfer that you have to cut on the bottom of the door will help to keep water out.
  • Question: Can this be used on a metal garage door as garage flooded with recent rainfall?

Answer: I should think so. You would have to screw it down into the base concrete and probably put sealer in between the two.
  • Question: Can I use this on an external door between tiles and the outside?

Answer: It has to be fitted to a flat surface under the door so if your tiles are higher than the outside level it won't work. I strongly suggest you have some clear silicone sealant to hand as the rubber seals on the underside only work if the door threshold surface is perfectly flat, so I found it best to squirt a bead of sealant along the underside before final fitting. By the way, you will need a hacksaw to cut it to length as it is made of aluminium. You will also need a drill and suitable masonry bit to drill the fixing holes. Also, make sure that the gap under the door is the correct size in order to compress the upper rubber seal slightly, but not too tightly otherwise you might pull the seal out or make the door too stiff to open. Good luck!
