  • Question: What is the horse power rating of this motor?

    Answer: 1hp = 746w; if this is an 18w motor then it equates to 0.024HP.
  • Question: Can I put a dimmer switch or something to adjust (slow) the speed?

    Answer: I think the speed of the motor is more a function of the 60 Hz (frequency) of the A/C, rather than the power that you might be able to adjust.
  • Question: How hot is normal for these motors?

    Answer: These things run really hot if run for periods as long as that. Personally, I switched to a Pololu 131:1 metal gear motor (1 RPS, but comes in many different speeds) item #1107 for $25, runs stone-cold all day even under load.
  • Question: Will this motor work to rotate a spit rod, with a basket drum for roasting coffee in a BBQ?

    Answer: These motors are very strong for their size. Buy one and try it. Make sure you order the correct coupling for your application.
  • Question: Can this motor be changed to operate on 220 volts? If so, what wiring changes need to be made.

    Answer: You can not change it. But we have 220V type. 1.2RPM, 5RPM, 20RPM, 50RPM is available. You can see it in the same listing. If you can't find it, please send a message to us.
  • Question: Can this be used outdoors continuously?

    Answer: This motor can’t be used outdoors directly. If you use this motor outdoors, please take measures against dust and water.
  • Question: I need 6 rpm that can torque 150 lbs load

    Answer: To answer that a lot more information is needed. A picture of the implementation would help.
  • Question: Are switch and wires provided as well?

    Answer: No, just a wiring strip, so you can add your own switch. Also, this is a 3-phase motor with an added capacitor to attempt to mimic such when run on single-phase. Thus it will run really hot if run for a few minutes. Get a true single-phase motor instead.
  • Question: Can I use it to power a rotating platform that has a 50-60 lb prop sitting on it? (1.5 rpm)

    Answer: This motor has good torque, but to hold something bigger, I suggest using some wheels to support most of the weight of the prop and allow the motor to turn with less resistance. For a display model (model airplane propeller?), please note that this motor is not recommended for continuous duty.
