- Happy Worms Are Productive Worms - 1) The MOISTURE CONTROL WATER RETENTION CHANNEL running around the outside of each tray collects water to prevent the bedding from drying out along the edges. 2) A collection of 52 angled MIGRATION TUNNELS extend down from the base of each tray providing ample opportunity for worms to migrate between trays. 3) AERATION SUPPORT POINTS molded into the side of the trays allow excellent 360-degree airflow.

The ventilation is good, so you shouldn't need to drill extra holes, but it's worth noting that the compost will perform better with plenty of oxygen. In terms of size, it's perfect for apartment set-ups, and will fit easily under counters and in small spaces. The Essential Living Composter is perfect for beginners, and is a great introduction to vermiculture. The worms are thriving, and the compost bin can demolish all kitchen scraps within just a few days, making it an incredibly efficient solution. However, there are a few issues. Firstly, the tiers can be a little tricky to keep sitting tightly, which means worms might escape, smells can occur, and fruit fly infestations can happen.
