Is there to download the iPhone app from?
Answer: there used to be, when it first came out. no idea if it is still on app store or itunes or not. i'm sure it's floating around internet somewhere. -

Does this use the phone’s microphone or does it have its own microphone?
Answer: uses phone mic. if you want good audio, you need an adapter to trigger the mic input part of the phone jack. for my iphone, i needed a TRRS adapter cable. stereo adapter won't work for mic input. also, i have an iphone SE, so the iO blocked the audio jack input, so i had to use a lightning extension cable to get the iO away from the jack, so i could plug in the mic adapter cable. this actually works well, because then you can mount the iO away from the phone, and control it without being right up close. i used a spring mic clip to attach the iO to a mic stand. the only problem i had was the adapters...both lightining and TRRs. the cheap ones don't work. you need high quality adapters for the phone and iO app to recognize they are connected properly.
