Why does it have a controller?
Answer: This gadget lets you power your RC projects main thrust motors as well as your RC receiver and servos. All this from a single power source (battery pack). It delivers 4.8V to the receiver. The receiver signals it to throttle (control) the drive motors using power from the battery pack which may be much higher voltage than the 4.8V required by the receiver. -

Should I cut the red wire on this one to the receiver if my receiver is already powered by another big ESC?
Answer: Yes, cut the red wire. -
Question:
Can this be used for a 550 motor?
Answer: No, this controller is only capable of delivering up to 10A continuously, which may not be enough for a typical 550 motor. -

Will this work with a 12V battery?
Answer: No, the ESC is rated for 4.8V to 8.4V. It might work up to 9.6V with a low current motor, but it is not recommended to use it with a 12V battery. -

Can this ESC be used for forward-only (one direction only) operation, like for an RC plane?
